- Drains that slow down everywhere in the house at the same time, not in one fixture
- Gurgling in the plumbing when a different fixture is used
- Standing water or soggy ground over the leach field in dry weather
- Grass noticeably greener and faster growing directly over the field
- Sewage odour outdoors near the tank or field
- Sewage backing up into the lowest drain in the house
