What the town is building
Barnstable runs one of the largest sewer programs on the Cape. Phase 1 of its Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan adds roughly 90 miles of new sewer and is designed to remove about 44 percent of the nitrogen the plan targets. As of spring 2026, more than 320 properties had become eligible to connect from the first two completed Phase 1 projects, and 71 percent of them had connected.
Active FY26 expansion projects include the Phinneys Lane neighbourhood and the Centerville Village south phase.
